First Foods & Allergy Introduction Matrix
Evidence-based guidance for starting solids and high-allergen foods.
Developmental Readiness Checklist
Most babies are ready around 6 months when these signs appear together.
High-Allergen Introduction Timeline
Following AAAAI guidelines for early introduction of peanut, egg, and dairy.
- 1Step 1 — Start with a safe staple
Introduce a non-allergenic starter food first (e.g., oatmeal, avocado, pureed sweet potato). Ensure infant tolerates it perfectly.
- 2Step 2 — Introduce one allergen at a time
Introduce one single high-allergen food (like a small amount of thinned smooth peanut butter or cooked egg scrambled/pureed) early in the morning when baby is well.
- 3Step 3 — Wait and watch
Space next new food out by 3-5 full days to accurately monitor for delayed allergic reactions.
